Congratulations to Stars Rooftop & Grill Room pastry chef Ross Evans for winning two dessert awards at the 22nd Annual Chocolate Affair gala on February 9, 2013 at the Marriott in Charleston, SC! Ross’ amazing Chocolate Hazelnut Entremet won both “Most Artistic” and “Most Delectable” awards against 23 other desserts from Charleston’s finest bakeries, pastry shops and restaurants.
This was the first time Stars entered the annual dessert competition which serves as the major fundraiser for Communities in Schools (CIS) of the Greater Charleston Area. The event raised over $108,000 in 2013. CIS is a nonprofit dropout prevention organization that currently serves over 10,750 students in 23 schools in Berkeley and Charleston counties. While everyone at Stars is excited about our awards, we are even more thrilled to have been part of an event that makes such a profound difference in our community.
Guests at Stars are able to taste for themselves the mouthwatering desserts created by Ross Evans. Our dessert menu is available seven days a week and includes popular sweet finishes such as Blood Orange Creme Brulee (Local Honey Tuile, Mint Chantilly) and Smoked Chocolate S’more Pie (Graham Cracker Crust, Smoked Chocolate, Marshmallow), to name a few.
Specialty cakes are also available at Stars for guests who book private parties in our Wilkinson Room, Grill Room and Rooftop event venues, as well as, smaller parties who dine at our restaurant. The award-winning Chocolate Hazelnut Entremet is just one of the decadent cakes offered. While the menu changes seasonally, recent cakes have included Stars Chocolate Special (Devil’s Food Cake, Chocolate Ganache, Chocolate Butter Cream), Hazelnut Cake (Praline Fuiettine Ganache, Local Honey Butter Cream) and Seasonally Inspired Cake (Vanilla Cake, Pastry Cream, Wafers, Bananas, Caramelized Banana Topping). Stars’ cakes can be customized and, depending on the size ordered, serve between 6 and 80 people. All specialty cakes must be ordered 72 hours in advance of the party.
